Waiting

from Better Day by Rosemary Schonfeld

/

about

I wrote this after rediscovering in my thirties that dating before going to bed with someone is a very good idea. Get to know someone a little first. Our parents' ideas weren't all bad.

WAITING words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld

I want to have a little talk
Maybe we should go for a little walk
Should I get in my car and drive away
Or would you like me to stay?

It’s been six months we’ve been going out
I’m beginning to have a few doubts
If I’m lucky I get a little kiss
But to me it’s all so hit and miss

You needed time, that’s fine
But now you’ve got me hanging on a line
I wear my heart on my sleeve
If you tell me to go I’ll leave

I have waited all this while
I can no longer live on our smile
When you’re talking
I can’t concentrate on what you are saying
When I sit close to you

I’ve been good, done what I should
When I want to grab you I ask you
“How’s your mother? Is she rested? That’s nice”.
When what I want is a few nights with you in paradise

If you say what you need
I’ll be happy to follow your lead
I know your past, that’s OK
Mine is none to tidy anyway

I’ll go home alone
But this time I may not come back
Or call you on the phone
My poor knees are giving way
Should I get in my car or should I stay?

Don’t you know I’m insecure
One wrong look and I’m running out the door
When I’m here, you make sure
You tightly shut your bedroom door

I don’t know how you feel
I don’t know what’s our deal
I can’t take a lot more
Without knowing what it’s for.
