AWAY FROM HERE words and music © by Rosemary Schonfeld Boat across the water Train along the rails Take me to another land Away from here Distant new horizon What secrets do you reveal Will the stars explode the night In fabulous delight Or hide inside the cafes and the bars? Chorus: Dusty tracks and concrete roads Wind along my dream I hunger for adventure And other ways to see People here don’t see they’re living Locked inside their narrow worlds They won’t let go their life rafts And go diving for pearls I want to go to the airport Or get a third class ticket train I want to breath new air even if I choke I want to rearrange my brain I want a change of scene, a change of sound To hear laughter and tears not quiet But right out loud Immigration passport control Fortunate am I that I walk through It’s a cold winter’s day And my clothes are frayed But I can’t wait to walk around this town Chorus
2.
I DIDN’T TELL HER words and music © by Rosemary Schonfeld I didn’t tell her you came ‘round today I didn’t tell her I didn’t tell her what you wanted me to say I didn’t tell her To hurt a heart like hers It would be cruel And to lose a love like hers I’d be a fool Chorus: But you come over here with your bedroom eyes And you know that I feel desire And you say she doesn’t have to know about this fire I didn’t tell her the I maybe led you on I didn’t tell her I didn’t tell here that I reached my rubicon I didn’t tell her It’s hard to turn you down But I will not deceive It’s better all around If you just leave Chorus I didn’t tell her all the things that you said I didn’t say we nearly ended up in bed I didn’t say you were here when I was alone I didn’t tell her I let you into my home Didn’t tell her I almost played with fire I can still feel down this telephone wire Chorus
3.
NIGHTS WITHOUT ARMOUR words and music © by Rosemary Schonfeld I could have told you A long time ago You’d be crying How you’d be let down I could have told you You didn’t want to know About all the lies going round and round I could have told you That dark curly hair Those lips that smile Hid a heart of ice I could have told you Because I was there I saw the cat And I was one of the mice And now I’ve only just heard The other day I can’t believe I’m that much stronger than you I learned my lesson After the hell I paid And I know just what you’re going through Chorus: But you and I We had our nights without armour Our nights without armour Our love without words And in these nights These nights without armour They walk away ‘These things happen’ they say Shrug shoulders Like you’ve only got flu They walk over your dreams Yawn over your pain Leave you bleeding And then smile at you I could have told you People like that Are put on this earth For fools like you and me To finally walk up and see What love should not be I could have told you But you turned away You didn’t want to hear What I had to say Oh no, your ears were closed And I have to stop myself From saying, “ I told you so” Chorus
4.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF words and music © by Rosemary Schonfeld You’ve been a long way down the line You’re feeling tired of trying Had enough of brick walls And feeling high before the fall Who can you turn to? Where can you go? Can’t see a future And you’re stone cold broke Chorus: Believe in yourself Belief in yourself What about that big man saying You don’t have what it takes And you know he’s not too smart He shut that door in your face Who can you turn to? Where can you go? Can’t see a future And you’re stone cold broke Chorus Even when nobody’s telling you What you want to hear Even if your dream is far away And you can’t get near All the jokers have control They have not heart they have no soul You’re still hungry And you’re still cold Chorus
5.
Loving You 03:14
LOVING YOU words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld I wasn’t looking I was quite happy on my own at night Or talking with my friends Times had not been easy Time to rest a broken heart Ease my soul, a cycle at an end Conversations, realisations And a bottle of wine How was I to know what I would find? Charlatans, jokers, thieves All found their way to me No I know who are my friends Suddenly standing there Right in front of me Wondering if you should take my hand Lost my my own thoughts and scared I nearly ran away But something about you Something about you Made me stay Chorus: Can it be so easy, loving you Loving you? Tell me I’m not dreaming Loving you. Loving you. Now if I could write down All I want from love The book would be you
6.
MY LOVER’S EYES words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld I went to sea one rain soaked night I went too sea though I was warned Of bitter fates and endless nights Drifting all alone forlorn But I set sail I took no heed Of good advice I had no need The ocean roared its beckoning call to me It roared its call to me Chorus: The thrill of terror seized my heart I stepped onto my rolling steed Anxious that we fast depart I cut the ties from land to sea I’m sure there was a screeching gale Or was it my own fears that wailed? How can a ship keep such speed Racing headlong out to sea? I make this journey of emotion Holding in my arms a prize Gazing deep into the ocean Liquid blue, my lover’s eyes I had a sleep like honey morphine On this journey rich in dreams I woke into warmth and comfort Rested calm and full of wonder I make this journey of emotion Holding in my arms a prize Gazing deep into the ocean Liquid blue, my lover’s eyes

LET ME BE YOUR GURU words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld Let me be our guru Honey I lead the way I’dd should you secrets of the universe After you pay I have seen the light and I will give some to you As long as you Let me be your guru Oh honey let me be your guru I learned these things in Africa They taught me for free But oh how expensive Life in the West can be There’s nothing wrong With giving all your money to me Chorus: Oh honey let me be your guru Oh honey let me be your guru Follow me, follow me Can’t you see I’m the one with the key? Let me be your guru Honey I’ll turn you on We’ll be the only ones still here When all the others are gone I was here years ago When the world was young Oh honey let me turn you on I’ll be your guru and turn you on I’ve seen it in my crystal That our fates are entwined So open up and let me wander Into your mind In a while you can let your body be mine Oh honey let me turn you on I’ll be your guru And turn you on

Gave It Away 03:28
GAVE IT AWAY words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld Don’t give it away Don’t give it away Away He said he’d leave his wife Oh yes he would He said he’d leave here Just as soon as he could Fifteen years later He still says the same Am I the only one Who’s on to his game? But she gave it away Gave it away He took all those years And he didn’t even ask They took all that money When she trusted them She thought she wouldn’t have to Mention it again They said, “You’re uptight. What is wrong with you?” They had her marked For their convenient fool But she gave it away Gave it away They took all that money And they didn’t even ask He said, “I want to love you Honey tonight Sure I’ll call you up tomorrow night. I’m up there with my band and I’m feeling hot. I can assure you You’re the one that I want”. Tomorrow comes He’s out of sight She was another one To brighten up his night But she gave it away Gave it away He took all that loving And he didn’t even ask Didn’t even ask But she gave it away Gave it away Don’t give it away Don’t give it away
9.
WOMAN AT THE CROSSROADS words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld A woman at the crossroads With very little time Shakes her head and tries to move But falls down with a sigh There’s a lover pulling east And her good sense pulling west She’s got to let one go Yes no yes no yes no And there’s no place to rest until she moves Chorus I wonder if she knows That I would be there To comfort her and tell her it will be all right I wonder if she can hear My voice in the wind saying, “You’ve got a friend in me” I woman at the crossroads Looking left and looking right The daytime that she knows Or the unfamiliar night And she cries ‘cos things are changing And she wishes it wasn’t so Yes no yes no yes no And her thoughts go ‘round and ‘round until she moves Chorus

WHY DID I LET words and music © Rosemary Schonfeld I lie here and I wonder At the mystery of life How mountains never crumble And how Elvis never dies How do the pyramids relate to life today? Why is there always one more lousy bill to pay Why to the rivers always rush out to the sea Why did I ever let a jerk like you near me? Conundra and enigma fascinate me every day Put my finger in the socket and it blows head away Cars to the left or right depending where I am What would all our armies do if there were no Saddam These are things I wonder as I lie here in my bed Why did I let a jerk like you into my head? Looking through my telescope at the night sky If I counted all the stars I’d be counting till I die The moon and her mystery travelling in style Needing no alarm clock to do the trip on time In an hour in a minute in a billion trillion years We could come and go and come and then completely disappear Why does Mars look red? Why is Venus blue? Why did I let myself love a jerk like you?

about

I made this CD not long after moving to Devon from London. I was fortunate enough to meet the multi-talented Chris Gibbons who co-produced this album as well as playing on all the tracks.
